Polyester

Not too long ago there was a small gallery showing of midcentury design "Every-Day Life" objects at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which featured a display case combining Jens Quistgaard Dansk designs, with the work of Vera. Before seeing that display, my attraction to Vera's work was minimal at best.

Maybe my distaste for Vera is because of my gender. Vera's work is truly feminine-oriented. The bulk of her work, being textiles—especially fashion textiles—does not really apply to my every day life, as the show was seeming to imply that they should. In any case, the purchase of this polyester scarf was a total whim, and probably due to several factors in my recent finds. In short, there haven't been any.

So, now I own a Vera scarf. Not one of her nice silk scarves, either. I don't want to belittle Vera's designs, since I do agree that her work was infinitely important to the culture of the mid-20th century, but what am I supposed to do with this now?
