Sears
USA, c. 1955
1.25 x 0.75 x 6.25" (teaspoon)
1 x 0.75 x 6.5" (salad fork)
1 x 0.75 x 7.75" (dinner fork)
Stainless steel
Each piece signed with manufacturer's mark

Another type of object I am innately attracted to is flatware. A fantastically modern fork is a thing of great beauty to me, so I have a difficult time passing up an unknown design if I stumble across one for a fair price. These pieces are an example of just such a situation.

The shapes, when I first saw them, were reminiscent of Russel Wright's Pinch line for Hull. Although narrower in shape, they have a nice curve to them. I was also intrigued by the Sears mark on each piece. I know Sears distributed some modern designs, but I've never seen flatware like this before.

Unfortunately, the construction of the pieces is poor. The stainless steel is quite thin, making for a bendable utensil – not something I normally look for in tableware. All in all interesting pieces, but I can’t see myself ever using them. If anyone has information about this shape, please drop me an email. I'm interested to learn more, but information seems scarce.
