04-005. Russel Wright
Casual China tea cup, saucer, and bread & butter plate
Iroquois China Company
USA, 1947
4.75 x 3.75 x 2.25" (tea cup)
6 x 6 x 0.75" (saucer)
6.5 x 6.5 x 0.75" (bread & butter plate)
Glazed ceramic
Unsigned

Usually when I come across Iroquois Causal China in a thrift shop, it is either a single piece, or a group of similar pieces (i.e. six plates of the same color). In this instance, the grouping was three different shapes in the same color.

What is more unusual is the lack of a mark on all three pieces. All of them are unmistakably Russel Wright’s Casual China shape, but are missing the normal markings that accompany the design. Other unmarked cups and saucers have been discovered to date, but I have never seen an unmarked bread and butter plate referenced before.

Charcoal is a particularly nice color, and nicely compliments both my sets of Ripe Avocado and Sugar White. I hope to find more pieces some day!

Found on April 21, 2004 in Brooklyn Center, MN.
