04-008. Yusuke Aida
Pepper shaker
Bennington Potters
USA, c. 1960
1.75 x 2 x 2.75"
Glazed ceramic
Unsigned

I somewhat recall seeing this shaker before. Somewhere online, I’m certain, but I cannot be sure exactly where. This is disappointing, since I can now only attribute this piece to Yusuke Aida and David Gil for Bennington Potters.

In any case, it has the feel of a Bennington piece to me, based on a large set of Gil’s work I picked up earlier this year. Midcentury handmade pottery—especially that which was produced in the United States—holds a particular appeal to me. Knowing that someone had a hands-on role in the existence of this object gives it a much more personal aura. It wasn’t stamped out be a machine. It was touched.

If anyone has any information or sources about this particular shape, I'd greatly appreciate any leads. Some day I'm sure I'll dig up that information again. Hopefully it will be some day soon.
