04-010. Russel Wright
Highlight/Pinch dinner fork
John Hull Cutlery
USA, 1953
1 x 1 x 7.25"
Stainless steel
Signed with manufacturer's mark and facsimile signature

I never see Russel Wright cutlery in "the wild" so I’ve resorted to filling out my collection via eBay. Lately I've been buying everything I can get my hands on, as long as it is at a reasonable price. This fork is the only affordable piece that’s made it's way to eBay this month.

My hope is to be able to put together a set of 4 place settings, consisting of 7 pieces each: the dinner knife, tablespoon, teaspoon, dinner fork, salad fork, butter/pat knife, and iced tea spoon. I know ... good luck with finding 4 each of those last 2 shapes. I can dream, can't I?

These forks are fantastically designed, and I quite enjoy using them to eat my meals. I'm not sure what percentage of midcentury modern collectors actually use their semi-rare pieces on a daily basis, but I believe that objects should be used for their intended purpose, especially if they've seen use by their previous owners.

Found on April 31, 2004 in an online auction.
