I’ve always had a fondness for handmade modernist designs, and David Gil and Yusuke Aida's work for Bennington Potters regularly tops my list of favored designs. These "Trigger" style mugs are a particular favorite of mine. This example has a particularly nice reactive glaze that mottles the standard Bennington brown with a beautiful mix of oatmeal and light blue-grey.
I’ve actually passed up a few of these in stores before, but they've always been the mottled "sponge-painting" decoration that Bennington used later in the 20th century. Unfortunately, the busy-ness of that style decoration severely distracts from the finely shaped body of the ceramic piece. This design was most likely developed by Yusuke Aida in collaboration with Bennington Potters' founder David Gil. It looks quite like the style that they worked together with in their documented designs.
