04-024. Eva Zeisel
Prestige lowball
The Federal Class Company
USA, 1954
3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25"
Glass
Unsigned

I’ve passed up more Federal Prestige lowballs in the past month than I can count, but this was the first printed variety I’ve found in "the wild," so I couldn’t pass it up. This particular example is printed in yellow, and has a kitsch-appeal that I don’t often find myself attracted to.

The typeface that "Lo-Ball" is printed in is dangerously close to the current bane of my existence as a graphic designer: Comic Sans. However, it has a subtlety that Comic Sans misses. The overall aesthetic captures that 1950's after-work cocktail hour that has all but disappeared in modern-day culture.

Found on May 27, 2004 in Richfield, MN.
