04-026. Russel Wright
Eclipse highball tumbler
Bartlett-Collins
USA, 1957
3.25 x 3.25 x 5.25"
Glass
Unsigned

Although probably not one of Wright’s most "modern" lines (it was designed later in his career), Eclipse glassware is perfect for its intended function. It is a simple barware, and the Oklahoma shape is hearty—perfectly suited for daily use. Unfortunately, most of it was used daily, meaning Wright's design is often worn.

Truthfully, sometimes I don't mind when something I find is worn, even more than moderately. Not only does it show that it was popular with its previous owner, but it also takes a little bit of pressure off of me to maintain something in pristine shape. If a piece of glasware is a bit worn, I don’t mind using it as much—and it keeps serving its purpose as a utilitarian item.

This glass, the only one like it in my collection, will definitely see its design and function put to use without anxiety.
