Town & Country lidded marmite

What in the world is a "Marmite?" That's what I thought this afternoon when looking up this interesting object in my reference books and on the internet.

Zeisel's Town & Country shapes are rather strange in their organic form. Add on top of that a shape which I am unfamiliar with and you have an interesting little research session all ready to go! According to my Webster’s New World College Dictionary, a marmite is as follows: mar·mite n. 1. A usually ceramic pot for making soup. 2. Soup made in, or as if in, such a pot.

Fitting, I guess. Although it seems fairly inefficient to make soup in a bowl so small. I'd definitely want more than one serving in a bowl of this size! I'd just prefer to call it a soup bowl. I’m dull like that.
