If I were to choose one point of interest about the Dansk Flamestone line, it would have to be the revolutionary use of materials Jens Quistgaard employed in his design. In 1957, for the first time in manufacturing history, Flamestone used both ceramic and porcelain in its production. Besides the breakthrough in technology, this combination is actually a fantastic idea. The materials are light in weight much like traditional porcelain, but have a tactile quality only found in ceramic. All in all, the design is quintessentially Danish Modern.

I am amazed in particular by how well these materials go with the rough iron candle holders Quistgaard was designing at approximately the same time in his career. There really is a method to Quistgaard's development as a designer, and the advent of the Flamestone line is quite an important milestone in this growth. In my opinion, it is worthy of much more attention that it currently gets.
