Antiquity wins with this latest find, a crystal vase in a crackle finish with applied sea green leaves by the great modern handmade glass company Blenko. Designed in 1934, this 366-LL vase is easiest the oldest glass piece I’ve bought lately.

Blenko gained most acclaim in the 50's and 60's with their freeform designs, but this vase predates those pieces by several decades. It's not too uncommon of a shape, however, since it was produced for dozens of years in many different color combinations. This treatment of sea green leaves on a crystal crackle base is old, and is pictured in a couple Blenko collector's books as their chosen illustration of the shape.

Since my youngest brother has recently started collecting Blenko glass, this piece will find its way into his collection. In fact virtually all my Blenko finds go his way, and I am glad to know they're going to an appreciative home.

Found on June 28, 2004 in Richfield, MN.
