05-013. Elmyr de Hory
Arbres (Hommage a Paul Cezanne) lithograph
Guillard-Gourdon & Cie. Cachan, Val-de-Marne for Candida Holdings N.V.
Spain, 1972
29 x 21"
Lithograph
Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist

Elmyr forged the works of the moderns so well, that it is certain that there are still works of his on prominent display in major museums all over the world misattributed to Picasso, Vlaminck, Derain, Dufy, Matisse, and Cézanne, whose style was appropriated for this piece. This particular series of Hommage lithographs was produced by Elmyr after he was captured, tried, and gained fame in Spain as a forger and as an artist. He committed suicide shortly after the series was finished, seemingly to avoid extradition from Spain to France to face serious charges of forgery.

Found on February 03, 2005 in Richfield, MN.
