A winner if the "Good Design" award from the Museum of Modern Art, the 948 bent neck decanter began as a mistake. When Winslow Anderson was working on a batch of 920 decantersa straight necked decanter in the exact same shape as the later 948one of the straight decanter's necks drooped. Turning this "mistake" into a production design proved to be a successful move for Anderson, as the 948 decanter became a seminal piece for Blenko and their modernist era designs. This particular example is missing its stopper, which should be a mushroom shape.
Scott commented: I unfortunately don't have a whole lot more to tell about this shape other than what I've already written here, Marty. If you want to learn more about Winslow Anderson, the designer of this piece, you can also check out his bio page.
Marty Foster commented: I have a bent neck decanter. It measures 9 1/2 inches high and 3 1/4 inches at the base. It is a bluish green color. It does not have a handle. It has the stopper and it has the foil label. It has a ring in the neck from holding a liquid. The top of the foil label is missing at the tips of the fingers but the bottom of the label is still there. I bought this at a yard sale over 30 years ago. I was wondering if you could give me any info on this decanter. Thanks
