A somewhat uncharacteristic Modernmates shape, I classify this piece along with the ovoid coffee table from the same line. Often mistakenly attributed to Russel Wright, the Modernmates line is documented as being designed by Leslie Diamond—an unknown designer from the mid-1940's. This piece represents one of the last few Modernmates items I want to add to my collection, with the previously mentioned coffee table and an occasional chair being the others listed in the previous issue of Ars Longa as being on my mest sought after list for 2005.
