05-038. Jens Quistgaard
Exotic Woods cutting board and knife
Dansk Designs
USA, c. 1958
5 x 8.5 x 1"
Teak and stainless steel
Manufacturer's mark and designer's initials

An extremely clever design that actually works. Many times clever designs come across as being cute or trite. This is not the case with this Quistgaard cutting board. With a removable knife that doubles as a handle, it is utilitarian and smart. I'd classify it as one of my favorite Quistgaard designs.

Last year I picked up a larger version of this same board that I haven't been able to bring myself to sell, so I think this smaller board (the smallest of 3 sizes available) will probably hang around for a while. It is also an early production model, and marked with one of Dansk's first logos, featuring three ducks in a triangular formation. These early pieces are quite desirable, which also plays a lot into my thoughts that I'll have a hard time letting it go.

Found on April 29, 2005 in Minneapolis, MN.
