05-076. Walter von Nessen
NF907 swing arm lamp
Nessen Studios
USA, 1927
11 x 13 x 49.5"
Brushed brass, glass, and electrical fixtures
Signed with manufacturer's mark.

A later production run (possibly from the 1950's or 60's) of Nessen Studios' seminal floor lamp design. Walter von Nessen introduced the concept of a swinging arm lamp in 1927. This concept has been borrowed for decades, and remains a very popular form. This design also marks an important point in the progression from art deco to modernism for Nessen. He worked in both styles quite handily, and this simple modernist lamp shows his transition away from his more decorated designs.

Found on June 26, 2005 in Crystal, MN.
