05-091. Pablo Picasso
Illustration from Mystification: Ou Histoire des Portraits
Mourlot / Les Editeurs Francais Reunis
France, 1954
7.5 x 11.0"
Lithograph on paper
Unsigned

This type of find is what keeps me going back over and over again to junk shops. I'd never be able to afford to hang Picasso artwork in my home if it weren't for circumstances like today. While I normally don't like to bother thrift shop employees, I was ecstatic to ask the employee of the shop to get a ladder for me today!

Philosopher Denis Diderot's Mystification: Ou Histoire des Portraits was reprinted in 1954, with 2 original lithograph illustrations by Pablo Picasso. Printed by the famed Parisian lithographer Mourlot on Arches paper, this is an extremely high quality piece for a book and seems to me to be better suited on the wall, to be appreciated at all times.

Found on July 30, 2005 in Saint Paul, MN.

Scott said: A quick correction: there were apparently 4 orignal Picasso lithographs included in this book.

Barry A. Smith said: Hey Scott. So what is this? I have a ton of high quality modern art, most of which though I know it has value, I do not know how much. Is this lithograph worth anything? Did you say it was in a book?

Scott said: It was from a book, Barry, though it was removed quite a number of years ago and framed, based on the amount of light damage there is. From the research I've done, I'd estimate it is worth anywhere between $800 and $1,500. Not bad for a $6 thrift store find!
