05-100. Hugo Kunz
St. Sebastian lithograph
Unknown publisher
Germany, 1917
13 x 16.5"
Lithograph on paper
Signed in the plate, plus publisher's seal

Sometimes internet auction sellers can be difficult to work with. We all hear the horror stories of slow shipment, overcharging, and poor communication. Only rarely do we hear positive reports. In this instance, I feel it is necessary to share my positive experience.

When I opened my birthday gift to myself, I found a very unexpected surprise. The seller included this lithograph as a bonus to the Dix lithograph I purchased from her. I was stunned to say the least, and thrilled to have the opportunity to learn about an artist I hadn't heard of before.

Unfortunately, I could find almost no information about Hugo Kunz on the internet. From what I gather, he worked around the time of the first world war, when Otto Dix also was gaining a reputation in the art field. He was born in Mainz in 1884, and was most active in the Munich area. If anyone has any more information, I'd be very grateful to hear.

Found on August 29, 2005 in an online auction.
