05-114. Russel Wright
Pinch juice tumblers
Imperial Glass Company
USA, 1951
3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25"
Glass
Unsigned

Since completing my goal of re-furnishing my living space, I've needed to reassess my goals. One thing I decided was that I wanted to round out my Russel Wright glassware collection. I have hardly any Pinch juice tumblers, so this find today was right on with my new goals.

One thing stumps me, however: the color. I have a fairly nice—though smallish—collection of Pinch glassware, and up to this point color has not been an issue for me. These particular examples, however, are causing me much consternation. In comparison to my examples in smoke and chartreuse, they do not measure up. They just aren't the same color. They are quite a bit lighter (and a completely different hue) from the smoke pieces I have and have seen, and are not even close to chartreuse. This leads me to the possible conclusion that they are cantaloupe. If that is indeed the case, this was a pretty great find! Unfortunately, I've never seen Pinch in cantaloupe before, so I have nothing by which to make a comparison. The description included in Ann Kerr's third edition of her Collector's Encyclopedia of Russel Wright says cantaloupe is a "light amber" which fits how I would describe this color fairly well.

Found on October 08, 2005 in Minneapolis, MN.

Scott said: On further research, these turned out to be copes of Wright's work, and are not actually Imperial's "Pinch" line. There are lots of copies out there, and these fooled me. Keep a sharp eye out, folks!
