05-147. Irwin Kalla
Sunglow dinner plates
The Edwin M. Knowles China Company
USA, c. 1960
Glazed ceramic
Manufacturer's mark with designer's name

While Knowles Sunglow isn't the pinnacle of Irwin Kalla's work, it still has an interesting midcentury look. It is a bit too much towards the kitsch end of 1950s style for my taste. One shouldn't generalize about these things, though ... kitsch was a popular seller for the time, and "money talks" as they say.

If this was instead a group of Kalla's line for Hyalyn, however, I would have bought it in an instant.

Left in situ on December 29, 2005 in St. Paul, MN.
