06-004. Glidden Parker
103B Afrikaan Planter
Glidden Pottery
USA, 1953
4.25 x 3 x 3.75"
Glazed ceramic
Unsigned

I've lately been on a quest for Glidden pottery, and this is my first Glidden find in "the wild." At the very least, this is a piece created under the artistic direction of Glidden Parker. I am relatively unversed in Glidden pottery, but have a hunch that this might be a Fong Chow design, but that is still to be determined.

I've just ordered the best Glidden reference book I could get my hands on, but would love your input. What do you know about this little pot?

Found on January 14, 2006 in Columbia Heights, MN.

Kevin Palmiter said: This design / Afrikaan was originally done before Fong Chow came to Alfred. He was likely to decorate in the manner shown. He liked the feel of the unglazed clay. If you are in the area ... there will be a sale of many pieces of Glidden at the Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Church (587 Rt 244 Alfred Station , NY 14803) on February 5 from 10:00am to 3:00pm in conjunction with their "All You Can Eat" Soup and pie lunch! I think lunch is served from 11:30 to 2:00. Cost is $6.00 for all you can eat, 4.00 for a cup of soup and a piece of pie and I think 3.00 for under 8 or something like that. So come on down buy some Glidden pottery and have some of the best soup and pie you ever ate!

Teres Winter said: I'm familiar with Gliddens Maine connections and still, on occassion find a piece here in Maine. When in Florida 2/04 I saw a piece and 4/05 several pieces while stopping between Rochester and Buffalo on old Rt 5 (maybe). I have 8-10 pieces. What I would like to know more about is his move to Arizon and switch to stain glass. Thanks for the info.
