If I had limitless space, this is one area I'd collect more of. I'm always drawn to Hyalyn porcelain, and even their non-designer pieces from the mid-20th century (such as this #344 footed bowl) have a fantastic style. The "spouts" on either side of the lip and a multi-footed base make this piece quintessentially midcentury modern, and if it was by one of the "big name" designers that did work for Hyalyn—Michael Lax, Irwin Kalla, Eva Zeisel, or Georges Briard—I probably would have purchased it rather than left it in the store this evening.

Snobbish of me? Probably. The right choice? Again, given my lack of space, probably.

Left in situ on January 23, 2006 in St. Paul, MN.
