It has been almost a year since my last Morgantown American Modern find, and that was in a vintage modern antique mall. My find tonight, consisting of eleven iced teas and 8 juices all in Seafoam, virtually triples my little collection. This is spectacular, considering building up this aspect of my collection was high on my priority list for 2006.

When Russel Wright wanted to create a line of glassware to accompany his American Modern dinnerware, he turned to his resources at Raymor which in turn contacted the Old Morgantown Glassware Guild. Initially Morgantown was reluctant to take on the production, citing their already full schedule. When they finally agreed to take on the line, they learned that despite the simple modern appearance of the designs, the production of the shapes was actually quite complicated. Add on top of this Wright's insistence on using a color palette of his own design instead of Morgantown's existing house colors, and a considerable amount of work went into making sure the final pieces matched up to the exacting specifications Wright put forth.

That's not to say it wasn't worth it for Morgantown. Exactly the opposite is the truth. In the end, Morgantown deemed the line "phenomenal" and almost doubled their production facilities in order to keep up with demand.
