In 1952, the Roseville Pottery Company was on the brink of bankruptcy. Folklore tells us that one production line saved them from this fate. That line was Ben Seibel's Raymor Modern Stoneware, also known as "Roseville Raymor."
In my opinion, RMS is Seibel's crowning achievement. The heavy pottery and rich glazes hint at antiquity while maintaining an extremely modern form. Unfortunately I've only seen RMS at thrift shops 3 times in my "career" as a hunter. The first two times I picked the pieces up, admired them for their shape, and left them on the shelf for someone else. These 2 instances are among the biggest mistakes I've made in thrifting. I will never pass up another piece in a thrift shop (except if it wildly overpriced), and see this lone trivet as a new beginning for myself. I've often told myself that if I was allowed to collect another set of dinnerware, it would have to be RMS. This is the beginning of that collection.
