06-040. Russel Wright
American Modern teapot
Steubenville Pottery
USA, 1939
10 x 6 x 5"
Glazed ceramic
Manufacturer's mark and facsimile signature

This is an exceptionally off example of the American Modern teapot. It looks like the person at the factory who was in charge of glazing was having a bad day. Not only is it unevenly applied, but is very gloppy in some areas. Even with the bad glaze plus the missing lid, I decided to purchase it. The teapot is one of my favorite American Modern — and Russel Wright in general — shapes. My collection of teapots sits lined up in a china cabinet, and always reminds of elephants at a watering hole.

Now if only someone has a spare lid. Please drop me a note if you do.
