06-041. George Nelson
Lord Calvert Reserve decanter
The Calvert Distilling Co.
USA, 1955
3.5 x 3.5 x 11.75"
Glass, plastic, & paper
Manufacturer's label

After spending all morning perusing a local flea market with a couple collector friends and leaving empty handed, I still had "the bug" while driving towards home. I decided to stop at a couple stores, since not fifteen minutes earlier we were talking about my tendency to get lucky at the thrifts. Apparently that luck was still on my side.

While I come across these George Nelson designed Calvert decanters relatively often (on the order of one every 9 to 12 months), I only rarely see the Russel Wright counterparts. Both designs were available on their own as well as part of a two bottle gift set, which makes me believe that the Nelson design possibly sold better than the Wright design in the single bottle packages.

Found on April 22, 2006 in Minneapolis, MN.

adam booker said: I looked at this for some time. An interesting, and old, whiskey bottle. too bad about the label though. Had i known it was designed by George Nelson I may not have put it back on the shelf.
