06-044. Giovanni DeSimone
Figural vase
Desimone Pottery
Italy, c. 1960
3.5 x 5 x 7.5"
Brass
Signed in ink

It has been while a while since I went out thrifting with any success, but the losing streak was finally broken this evening. It has been almost a year since I've found any of Giovanni Desimone's work, and it's always fun to re-familiarize myself with an "old friend." Desimone's figurative work is by far his most inspired, and shows the influence of his friend and mentor, Pablo Picasso, much more than his abstract pieces. This small two handled vase is in surprisingly good condition, and is a fantastic example of some of Desimone's finest work, in my opinion.

Found on May 25, 2006 in Richfield, MN.
