06-045. Russel Wright
American Modern bedroom desk/vanity
Conant Ball
USA, 1935
34 x 18.5 x 30"
Rock Maple
Manufacturer's mark with designer's name

I've recently been contemplating "trading up" my Sears Star Dust line of bedroom furniture to the line it imitates: Russel Wright's American Modern line for Conant Ball. I had also promised myself not to take on any more refinishing projects. Today, I broke that promise and picked up this nice bedroom desk/vanity, that although structurally sound has been badly repainted.

Originally called Modern Living and retailed at Macy's department stores, Wright's furniture was the first to be finished in a light bleached wood color, which Mary Wright named "Blonde." This finish would go on to become the most important color in mid-twentieth century living spaces.

Found on May 29, 2006 in Hopkins, MN.
