Vase

USA, c. 1940 1952
4 x 3.25 x 5.75"
Glazed ceramic
Unmarked

Although decidedly not modern in style, I just couldn't pass up this little vase. I've always been interested in Arts & Crafts styles, and this piece probably falls into the later end of that type of ware. It is roughly produced, with little attempt to hide the seams produced by slip molding and a ground off glaze blob towards the rim on the back side. Even despite the lack of care that apparently went into its production, I still quite like my new acquisition.

If anyone has any ideas at all about the manufacturer of this piece, I'd be excited to hear more. My best guess is McCoy, but that's simply a guess and I'm probably far from the mark. I'd entertain any opinions (or documentation!).

Update: Thanks to Kristen and her grandmother we can more accurately date this piece to 1952. Kristen's grandma has an identical piece she purchased from Davenport's that year.

Found on February 20, 2007 in Champaign, IL.
