I find it strange that more people find this site looking for information about Vera than any other designer. When I began cataloging my finds, the majority of my posts were talking about Russel Wright, and I always assumed that he would drive the majority of interest here. How wrong I was! What is really interesting to me is the fact that I only barely "collect" Vera designs, and what I do acquire isn't really or me anyways. It is for Kate. But with so many people coming to the site and asking Vera related questions, I felt that I needed to brush up on her life and career.

We all know Vera is popular today. Just take a look at eBay, and you'll see that they sell fairly well and are readily recognized by the general public. For this reason I find it strange that there are not more collector-oriented websites than currently exist. Sure there are a few, most of which I link to from the Vera bio page in the designer directory (which you can reach by clicking her name at the top of this listing). But there are nowhere near the quantity or quality I'd expect from such a loyal fan base. I definitely appreciate the fact people come here trying to learn about Vera's life and work, but I fully realize that I am nowhere near educated enough to even think I could list my own site as a major Vera resource.

Do you know of a great Vera site that I don't mention? Let me know and I'll add it.

Craig said: Scott - saw your post on the collection of Gerson Lessa... I communicated with him a few years ago in the early days of fotolog.net. Here is his original fotoblog, which I think is more extensive than the more recent flickr blog: http://www.fotolog.com/galessa/ More interestingly, he has a catalog of great contemporary designs of his own that he has recently produced in catalin bakelite. I showed his catalog to some local modern vendors a couple of years ago. He believed (and I agree) that he might be the only person currently making contemporary bakelite objects.

Wendy Hodgden said: I have a signed Vera painting that was given to my father in the 60's IT is framed. My father was a retail buyer for a famous women's store in Kansas city and knew her very well. I am interested in selling it. Please email me if you are interested. I can send a picture by email. Wendy Hodgden
