07-022. Arne Jacobsen
Cylinda jug with ice lip
Stelton
Denmark, 1967
4 x 6.5 x 8"
Stainless steel & plastic
Unsigned

It has been a while! This is probably the longest hiatus the site has been on since I began writing three years ago, and for that I apologize. Kate and I are finally getting settled into our new house, and reorganizing all of the items we had to remove from our storage unit. Along with that process goes many, many thrift store trips. But with as busy as we've been, those trips have only been to drop off donations and not to shop. Today, however, I took a couple minutes to run through the store after donating another carload full of our castoffs. Apparently it was a good choice, because I made this fantastic find!

Winner of the 1967 ID prize, the Cylinda line was an instant hit. Original production pieces appear in every important museum collection of modern industrial design around the world, but although Jacobsen designed this 2-liter lipped ice jug in 1967 it apparently didn't make it into production until sometime in 2004. Today it has joined the rest of the Cylinda line as a design classic.

Hopefully I'll get back into full scale thrifting in another month, after the wedding is over and the unpacking has been concluded. I promise I'll be back soon!

Found on June 19, 2007 in Champaign, IL.
