Right now I'll bet you are asking "What is so interesting about a solid navy blue scarf?" ... and my answer to that question is "Not a whole lot." I mean, besides Vera's personal contributions to midcentury textile designs this poor little scarf doesn't have a whole lot going for it. It is a solid, which traditionally are not sought after in Vera scarves. It is polyester. Again, not too desirable. It is navy blue. I can practically hear you snoring.
Honestly speaking, I'd normally not bother posting a scarf like this here on Ars Longa. The only reason I did, in fact, was to alert you to a new item I've added to the resources & links page: a book I was previously unaware of that covers Vera's work in textiles (and more). Vera Textiles, by Jeanette and Katherine Michalets is a wonderful resource that covers a good quantity of Vera's work. While it would be impossible for any book to cover each and every design by this particular artist, Vera Textiles provides a good overview of Vera's work as well as tips on dating pieces as well as some ideas on how to use them. If you are looking for more resources and insight into Vera's life and work (such as Kate and I always are), I highly recommend this book as an addition to your collecting library!
