Normally I find thrifting in the winter to be slow, but for some reason I've had great success this year. Today was the last thrift shopping day before Christmas, so Kate and I took a quick run out to the stores to get our fix in before the long holiday weekend. This apparently was a good choice, since we walked away with this Gilley Tempron Taste Tempters cream and sugar set! Every time I fine a piece from this line I say it is one of my favorites from Ben Seibel's oeuvre, and my feelings have not changed on this subject. This particular piece, which is labeled with the stock number BW 365-33 in Gilley catalogs, is a fairly uncommon shape so I consider myself fortunate to have been able to buy myself this little holiday gift.
There are several similar pieces in the Gilley catalogs to this cream and sugar set, and this style of stand is used in at least two or three other configurations. When I originally found it in the store, the creamer was missing and I mistakenly assumed it was a jam and jelly set. Disappointed in missing the second jar, I took a closer look and noticed a cutout in the slot intended for the handle of the creamer a dead giveaway that this in fact was not the jam/jelly! With that knowledge I immediately went back through the glassware aisle, and was fortunate to find the matching creamer. That, along with the sugar spoon still being with the set and intact, was my little Christmas miracle for the year!
I wish you all a happy holiday, and fabulous finds in 2008!
