Carl Erickson
(1899-19??)
After emigrating to the United States at age 14 from Reijmre, Sweden, Carl Ebert continued his family tradition of master glass blowing with a 20 year employment at Pairpoint Glass, followed by four more years with Libbey. Erickson was eventually hired as Blenko shop foreman in 1930, where he was charged with design as well as mentoring apprentice blowers.
After leaving Blenko in 1943, Carl opened the Erickson Glass Works in Bremen Ohio with his brother Steven. It was there that Carl continued developing his trademark style of controlled bubble inclusion in hand blown glass. Carl eventually purchased full interest in the company, which officially closed in 1961.
Erickson's designs have been honored with awards from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a Senate resolution in the state of Ohio proclaims Erickson "a craftsman who has brought to his community and his state well deserved fame for his singular and rare skill."
