Hans Wegner

(1914 - 2007)

One of the most prolific designers in the Scandinavian Modern style, Hans Wegner will probably be most remembered for his great legacy in chair design. Wegner was trained as a cabinet maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts & Crafts. In 1940 he went to work designing furniture under the supervision of Arne Jacobsen. Only two years later, The Copenhagen Museum of Art and Industry acquired the first Wegner chair for their permanent collection. Wegner has been awarded all major honors available to a designer, and his furniture is now included in virtually every major design museum collection across the world.
