Wayne Husted
(1927- )

Considered a troublesome student by teachers, young Wayne Husted found more merit in sketching in the margins of his notes than paying attention to high school lectures. After a few short stints at various higher education institutions after his graduation, he was one of about 40 out of 1,600 students accepted into Alfred University's esteemed design program. After his graduation from Alfred University in 1952, he followed in the footsteps of Blenko's other Alfred graduate Winslow Anderson and accepted a position with The Blenko Glass Company despite his complete lack of previous experience working with the medium.

Although Husted's major contribution at Blenko was his architectural scale floor vase designs, he was an extremely proficient designer with over 500 shapes to his credit at Blenko alone. He left Blenko in 1963 to become an independent industrial designer working in a wide variety of materials, but eventually returned to the company after 36 years.
