Winslow Anderson
(1917- )
In 1947, William Blenko, Sr. contacted Alfred University to ask if they had any qualified students to fill their newly created resident designer position. The school recommended Winslow Anderson for the job, who at around that time was working under Glidden Parker at Glidden Pottery. Anderson began work with Blenko in 1947, shortly after his graduation from Alfred University with a BFA in Industrial Ceramic Design at age 30.
During his six years of employment at Blenko, Anderson was responsible with the creation of over 160 new designs for the company, completely changing the focus of their line to a Scandinavian influenced modernist aesthetic. After leaving Blenko in 1952, he returned to pottery by accepting a position as design director with Lenox China, where he remained until his retirement in 1980.
