It is amazing what one can dig up at the Vatican. Recently, one particularly interesting long-missing treasure was found there: a 1563 sketch of St. Peter's Basilica by Michelangelo. In fact it is quite possible that this is one of the last sketches ever made by the artist, who died shortly after the phase of work depicted in the drawing was completed. The sketch would originally have been used by the stonecutters working on construction of the Basilica.
These news archives span back to Ars Longa's inception in August of 2004. Due to this longevity, many of the older posts may feature external links that have gone dead. Over time websites move pages and some even close shop altogether. I apologize for these inconsistencies, but in the interest in maintaining a full archive even entries whose links have expired will remain in place on Ars Longa.
