I Missed You, Enid Collins04.21.08
Last friday, after being roused from my desk by a hearty aftershock, I went to an estate sale in my neighborhood. I always love estate sales. Not only does it satisfy my voyeuristic impulses, but I get to look for cool stuff. While I only walked out with a few books to add to our ever-expanding bookshelves, I did come across a vintage Enid Collins bag I considered purchasing for Kate. Even though it was priced a little higher than I was willing to spend, it was good to refresh my mental library by seeing an example of her work in person. And an exciting visual these purses are: simple wooden boxes screen printed and decorated with lucite "jewels" in flower and animal patterns. Very 1965. Too bad it couldn't come home with me.

Dawn said: Thank you for posting this about Enid Collins. I know so little about her, except that her bags sell for $$$ on eBay and that I've never found one in the wild. I am so impressed with the link you included. Some of those I would love to own myself, such as the "Yes" bag and the "Dove of Peace". I had no idea she was so groovy; I always thought her bags were fort he " madras bermuda shorts and circle pin" crowd only, Many thanks!
