Finnish Folk Modernism04.25.08
I think I'm attracted to Sanna Annuka's work for many of the same reasons I like Marimekko ... bold graphic Finnish design somehow "speaks" to me. This could be due to my own Scandinavian heritage, my penchant for all things Modern, or possibly some unknown element that simply draws — and keeps — my eye focused on the work. Annuka's imagery has a strong base in folklore and folk craft, and is available for purchase at very reasonable prices. The Angel of the North lithograph is among my favorites, right alongside the serigraph titled Sunrise. Top notch, if you ask me!
