One of my favorite things to do is to jump in the car and go explore the thrift stores in some random city or town. Between a planned trip this weekend in celebration my birthday this week and an unexpected day off work today, there are going to be plenty of miles of thrifting adventure in my near future. Today I'll be taking a quick jaunt to Decatur, IL, where I'll hopefully hit 9 or 10 shops. Saturday's trip to Indianapolis, IN, will be more substantial with more than 20 shops on the agenda. If I buy anything interesting I'll obviously post those finds here on Ars Longa when I return home, but these trips are also often scattered with sightings of interesting objects that I don't want to add to our collection but think deserve some sort of notice or comment. Because of this, lately I've been trying out something a little bit new: I've been micro-blogging my thrift shop road trips on Twitter. If I see something interesting that I plan on leaving behind, I'll photograph it using my cellphone and post it live from the road. So if you're interested in the near-misses in addition to the big scores, I invite you to follow me on Twitter. It should make for an interesting conversation.
